About Biomimicry
Biomimicry Technologies Private Limited has developed an innovative Water Filtration System with Biodegradable Bead-Based Treatment, specifically designed to treat municipal wastewater and repurpose it for sustainable uses such as public park irrigation and toilet flushing. This eco-friendly technology reflects a commitment to addressing urban wastewater challenges with a focus on pollutant degradation, water reuse, and resource conservation.
The system stands out for its ability to process large volumes of wastewater, offering a practical solution to urban water management problems. By employing biodegradable bead-based treatment, it aligns with sustainable development goals, ensuring minimal environmental impact.
Biodegradable bead-based wastewater treatment
- Treatment Capacity: 20,000 liters per day.
- Modular structure allows seamless integration into urban infrastructure.
- Stage 1 : Collection of raw sewage directly from the sewer line.
- Stage 2 : Initial filtration using strainers to remove larger particles.
- Stage 3 : Advanced filtration and biodegradation using biodegradable beads, resulting in treated water ready for reuse.
- Reduction of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) to acceptable levels.
- Elimination of suspended solids and significant improvement in water clarity and turbidity.
- Parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, and chemical composition are assessed using standardized techniques (Richards, 1954; APHA, 1998).
- BOD and COD are calculated using Winkler titration and Open Reflux Method, respectively.
- Testing includes sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, carbonate, and bicarbonate concentrations.

Key Project Locations:

DTEA Senior Secondary School, Moti Bagh, New Delhi:
- Treated wastewater is utilized for public park irrigation and toilet flushing, minimizing reliance on freshwater resources.
- Demonstrates a working model of sustainable wastewater management for educational purposes.
- Customer and Stakeholder Engagement: A centralized reporting and complaint handling system facilitates seamless communication with stakeholders, offering clear visibility and accountability for all parties.
- Ensures the maintenance of urban green spaces through efficient irrigation using treated wastewater.
- Promotes community awareness about the importance of water recycling.
- The system's effectiveness is being evaluated under a collaborative agreement between Biomimicry Technologies and the Water Technology Centre, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi.
- A research team from ICAR-IARI, including Dr. P.S. Brahmanand, Dr. Khajanchi Lal, and Dr. Vijay Prajapati, conducted site visits at both Moti Bagh and Hauz Rani Park to collect and analyze untreated and treated water samples.
