Accelerating India’s Green Energy Transition

Expanding EV infrastructure reduces India’s reliance on imported oil, a step that fosters energy security and shields the economy from volatile oil prices. The establishment of EV infrastructure generates employment, including roles in installation, maintenance, and station operation. This green technology deployment also supports rural electrification efforts, which can stimulate broader economic growth. As EV adoption rises, these advancements in charging infrastructure and collaboration mark India’s accelerating journey toward sustainable, green energy and environmental progress.

EVI Technologies’ Role in EV Charging and Battery Swapping Infrastructure

EVI Technologies Private Limited (EVIT), an IIT Delhi alumni-founded company, is spearheading the development of EV charging infrastructure in India. Established in New Delhi and associated with Electropreneur Park and the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) at IIT Delhi, EVIT has been on a mission for nearly seven years to make electric vehicle (EV) charging accessible and efficient. With over 3,500 EV chargers deployed in 20+ states, EVIT’s chargers serve electric two-, three-, and four-wheelers with both AC (slow) and DC (fast) charging options ranging from AC 3kW to DC 120kW.

EVIT’s emphasis on “collaboration, not competition” has led to partnerships that have scaled its reach and impact across India. Through collaborations with organizations like BSNL, BSES Rajdhani, Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), EVIT has brought its EV charging solutions to various regions, enhancing accessibility for urban and rural areas alike.

  • Key Collaborations
  • BSNL: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish EV charging and battery-swapping stations at 5,000 BSNL locations.

  • EESL: EVIT was awarded the first public EV charger tender by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), securing an order for 50 AC001 chargers.

  • BSES Rajdhani: EVIT collaborated with BSES Rajdhani to deploy EV chargers across Delhi, with plans to install 3,000 chargers.

  • IOCL & HPCL Outlets: EV chargers deployed across multiple states through partnerships, marking EVIT’s commitment to enabling nationwide EV infrastructure.

Impact and benefits to Society

  • Driving Environmental Sustainability and Economic Growth EV charging and battery-swapping stations offer transformative benefits that align with India’s sustainable development goals. By reducing fossil fuel dependency, EV charging stations significantly cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in India’s urban centers where air pollution is critical. As EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, the expansion of charging infrastructure directly contributes to lowering India’s carbon footprint. EVs offer a lower cost of ownership compared to traditional internal combustion vehicles, with charging costs often cheaper than conventional fuel. Battery swapping stations also enhance operational efficiency for commercial transport, which benefits services like delivery and ride-sharing by minimizing downtime.

Alignment with DRIIV’s Energy and Environment Initiatives

EV charging and battery-swapping solutions resonate strongly with DRIIV’s thematic focus on sustainable energy and environmental stewardship. By enabling widespread EV adoption, DRIIV and EVIT contribute to India’s vision of clean and efficient mobility. EV charging stations foster grid resilience by integrating smart charging and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) options, which allows stored energy in EV batteries to be fed back to the grid, stabilizing distribution systems. Battery swapping solutions, in particular, support the urban transportation sector by offering rapid, convenient recharging options for electric two- and three-wheelers. These initiatives also align with the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan, aimed at advancing e-mobility and reducing India’s carbon emissions. Through partnerships, innovation, and deployment, EVI Technologies and DRIIV are building the foundations for a cleaner, more resilient future for India.
