Catalysing Sustainability

Supporting CSR & ESG goals

DRIIV integrates innovative solutions with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts to address critical environmental challenges and promote sustainability. These initiatives align with India’s national goals and global sustainability targets. The Collective Responsibility Drive (CRD), in partnership with REC, REC PDCL, and BPCL, focuses on recycling plastic waste into eco-friendly products like recyclable benches, distributed across schools in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. DRIIV’s partnership with MongoDB has led to an advanced platform for infectious disease surveillance, utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as Graph Neural Networks to support proactive public health strategies. These programs reflect DRIIV’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and societal impact.

Engagement with public bodies

DRIIV collaborates with public organizations to tackle challenges in aviation, water management, energy, and transportation, leveraging research and innovation to create sustainable solutions. Key initiatives include a partnership with Airports Authority of India (AAI) to enhance aviation safety and sustainability through indigenous research at CARO, and with Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to rejuvenate water bodies like Sanjay Van and Smriti Van using phycoremediation. Additionally, DRIIV supports solarized EV charging infrastructure with Delhi Transport Corporation and oil sludge removal at Numaligarh Refinery Limited, Golaghat, Assam with Oil India. These projects demonstrate DRIIV’s capacity to drive public-sector innovation and sustainability.

Pilot & innovation challenges

DRIIV is a catalyst for mainstreaming deep-tech innovations, particularly those requiring extensive R&D. By offering technical expertise, access to advanced lab facilities, and opportunities for real-world piloting, DRIIV bridges the gap between ideation and commercialization. For instance, the MG Developer Program 5.0 focuses on Artificial Intelligence in Electric Mobility, encouraging innovators to solve critical mobility challenges. Similarly, TITAN DI Awards emphasize water sustainability with grants and mentorship opportunities for impactful solutions. Collaborations with entities like Oil India and BATX reflect DRIIV’s role in piloting transformative technologies in energy and sustainability sectors. These innovation challenges align with national missions and foster pathways for industry-research partnerships.

Technology validation/adoption/transfer

DRIIV provides a comprehensive platform for validating cutting-edge technologies, working with experts from IIT Delhi, IIIT Delhi, AIIMS, and JNU to ensure their reliability and scalability. For instance, the Biomimicry-based water filtration system, branded "Urban Pure" by Biomimicry Technologies Private Limited, has been tested at sites like DTEA Senior Secondary School and Hauz Rani Park. Evaluations by the Water Technology Centre, ICAR-IARI, confirmed its efficacy in treating municipal wastewater, exemplifying DRIIV’s commitment to impactful, science-driven innovation. Under clean air initiatives, Project SAMEER brings together diverse stakeholders to tackle air pollution through validated solutions. Technologies like Airth’s Coated Electronic Air Cleaner (CEAC) for indoor air purification and ShudhVayu’s vehicle-mounted air cleaning systems have been validated by IIT Delhi experts. These pilots include deployments at ISBT Kashmere Gate and DPCC vehicles, generating data to support their scaling and wider adoption.
In sustainable waste management, DRIIV's tailored experts are addressing critical challenges through bio-mining innovations, waste-to-oil processes, and dry digestion methods for parali (stubble) burning. These technologies aim to reduce pollution while promoting circular economy practices for sustainable resource recovery.

Co-creation with corporates

Collaborations with corporates like Ather, M3M, Toyota, and GMR exemplify DRIIV's vision of fostering innovation through co-creation.
  • Ather : DRIIV supports research on battery cell degradation, bringing in expertise from CART, IIT Delhi, to enhance battery performance and longevity.
  • M3M : The Green Fellowship Program, in partnership with M3M Foundation, empowers innovators in clean energy and sustainability, reflecting DRIIV’s commitment to mobilizing private capital for impactful solutions.
  • Toyota : Collaborations span solar energy innovations, skilling programs, and developing centres of excellence for advanced technologies like FCVs.
  • GMR : With access to ₹30 crore under the Innovex program, DRIIV drives sustainability initiatives, from digital twins for airports to green hydrogen production and waste-to-fuel technologies. These collaborations showcase DRIIV's ability to align corporate goals with national missions.

Lab facilities & prototyping support

DRIIV empowers startups and innovators by providing access to world-class lab facilities through strategic partnerships with organizations like SATHI Foundation and Social Alpha. The SATHI Foundation boasts state-of-the-art equipment, including Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM), Stimulated Emission Depletion Microscopy (STED), and Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscopy (Cryo-TEM), enabling precise testing and development of groundbreaking solutions. Complementing this, Social Alpha operates a specialized prototyping lab in Rohini, offering innovators the tools and resources to transform ideas into viable products. By facilitating access to such advanced infrastructure, DRIIV not only accelerates the journey from research to commercialization but also nurtures a culture of innovation and technological excellence.

International engagement

As a nodal agency for cross-border collaborations, DRIIV fosters sustainable value chains and knowledge sharing. DRIIV has partnered with CLEAN, a Danish environmental cluster, to establish an Indo-Danish research & innovation network exploring transnational synergies within the plastic value chain from production and product design to prevention of overconsumption, to end-of-life advances.

High visibility showcasing platform

DRIIV has established itself as a prominent contributor to global forums through impactful events that address critical societal challenges with innovation and collaboration. By fostering partnerships among academia, industry, and government, DRIIV amplifies its mission to leverage science and technology for the greater good.
